Kleiner Pintail for Perch - optimal on the Drop Shot Rig

The NANO is a specially designed bait, perfectly tailored for drop shot fishing and created to specifically catch many perch. With its small, delicate shape and precise details, it also attracts the most cautious predators. Although the focus is on perch, the NANO can also convince other smaller predatory fish. Here’s how to use the Nano with the drop shot rig:

The Drop Shot Rig and How to Use It

To effectively use the drop shot rig, it is important that the weight touches the bottom and the bait is not constantly pulled on a tight line. If you keep this in mind, you are on the right track, and the first bites won’t be long in coming. For beginners, it is recommended to let the drop shot weight sink to the bottom after casting with a tight line. Then lower the rod so the bait can slowly glide to the bottom on a slack line. Watch the line carefully to feel the moment the bait reaches the bottom. Then make one or two gentle movements with the rod tip to activate the soft bait. After that, slowly drag the weight a short distance along the bottom—about half to a full meter—and repeat the technique. With some practice, you will quickly get a feel for the method.

More experienced anglers can flexibly adjust the bait presentation to the conditions. For example, in stronger wind, it can be helpful to fish the rig with the rod lowered and move the bait with small twitches, allowing it to be retrieved in a style called “twitching.”
